Hello Minarca community,
I’m glad to announce the release of a new Minarca client and minarca-server version. This new version includes a couple of bug fixes, security fixes and new features.
Download: Download | Minarca
Highlights
Security fix (CVE-2025-67796) We fixed a path traversal vulnerability in rdiffweb that could allow access to a sibling repository. We strongly recommend that all server administrators upgrade.
RPM packages for the client The Minarca client can now be built and distributed as an RPM, including a desktop entry, bash completion, and a man page. This makes deployment easier on Fedora, RHEL, and compatible distributions.
More resilient client connections The client now retry on all request exceptions and falls back between hostname and IP schemes, with clearer HTTP error handling. The initial configuration should be simpler.
Better traceability on the server The admin activity log now records the IP address and user agent of each action, and this context is also passed to background jobs. This makes auditing much easier in multi-tenant environments.
Fix: deleting users with repositories Deleting a user who still owns repositories no longer triggers a SQL error (#389).
Good to know
- rdiff-backup 2.2: The server now uses the
rdiff-backup server subcommand for v2.2 compatibility.
- Debian: Server images now target Bookworm, and Bullseye support has been dropped because of EoL.
Full changelogs are available in the project repositories.

Hello, I ran into an issue while upgrading my ikus060/minarca-server Docker container from 7.1.1 to 7.2.0. The container crashes on startup when configured with a PostgreSQL database URI (MINARCA_DATABASE_URI=postgresql://...):
Error:
cherrypy.process.wspbus.ChannelFailures: ModuleNotFoundError("No module named 'psycopg'")
AttributeError("type object 'DiskUsage' has no attribute 'query'")
AttributeError("type object 'UserObject' has no attribute 'query'")
AttributeError("type object 'SshKey' has no attribute 'query'")
Most likely cause:
In Minarca 7.2.0, the bundled SQLAlchemy version was upgraded to 2.1+ or PyInstaller build just pulled in the newest, where the default driver for generic postgresql:// URLs changed from psycopg2 to psycopg (Psycopg 3). Because minarca-server only bundles psycopg2-binary, create_engine() fails trying to import psycopg.
Workaround:
Changing MINARCA_DATABASE_URI to explicitly specify postgresql+psycopg2://... resolves the issue.
I apologize if this error should have gone to gitlab. I’ve been using Minarca for about 2 months now and it’s been great. I have some general feedback/questions should i just create a single post here or post each feedback/question as separate post?
Hello potersvog,
This is a documentation issue. This is related to sqlalchemy >= 2.1.0.
It seems the “postgresql://” URL without a driver was already deprecated but still working before that. Recent version is now failing.
I will update the documentation accordingly.
I’ve been using Minarca for about 2 months now and it’s been great.
I’m glad it’s working well for you.
I have some general feedback/questions should i just create a single post here or post each feedback/question as separate post?
It’s generally better to open a single post per question / feedback. It’s easier to answer. It’s also easier for other users to discover, etc.
